This Easter, The Dating Detox is becoming a movie.
A very, very short movie.
We’re filming a key scene from the book, and we’re going to put it on the internet as a trailer.
Here’s why: a couple of months ago, a director friend, Sam Eastall, kept saying he saw it as a movie or even a TV series. And then my agent sent me a few book trailers and said ‘did you ever think about doing something like this?’. Most book trailers are an author talking to the camera – like, so not my bag – or a digital cartoony thing – not quite right, either.
I started to wonder how a movie-style trailer might work, how we could get across the characters and plot, whilst still making it cool and funny and – most importantly - ‘what happens next?’. All in about four minutes.
The idea is, obviously, that we’ll launch it online and hopefully, people might like it, find it funny and send it to friends.
I wrote a script. And Sam called an actress he knew, the lovely and talented Daisy Aitkens, who as a total bonus, pretty much looks exactly how I’ve always pictured Sass in my head. And we had a meeting. And then Tomboy Productions got involved, and a director of photography called Ross Kirkman, and a producer, Alida Stewart. And we had some more meetings and tinkered with the script. And we had some location meetings. And got insurance. And a crew. And the rest of the cast. And now we’re done. We even have the yellow clutch ready to go.
We're filming on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April at a Central London location.
All we need is more extras for the background of the scene. We're looking for men and women, in their 20s/early 30s.
If you would like to be an extra on the trailer of The Dating Detox, just email gemma@gemmaburgess.com telling me why you (and a friend, if you like, a wingman always helps) would make the perfect extra(s) for The Dating Detox...
